Yoga for Birth Trauma
or Postpartum Depression
If you have been through a traumatic birth experience and/or are coping with a difficult transition to new parenthood, yoga can be a grounding and stabilizing force in your life.
Yoga is very calming and soothing to the central nervous system and can be a wonderful complement to mental health therapy. People dealing with depression and anxiety who take yoga classes have reported an increased ability to cope with difficulties and stressors, more flexibility, and greater resilience to life's inevitable ups and downs.
I have experienced recovery from a difficult and traumatic birth, and even years later found yoga to be the major thing that helped me recover a sense of stability and confidence in my own body.
Since giving birth is such a physical experience, when everything doesn't go smoothly, women are often left with a loss of confidence in their bodies, and a feeling that their body has somehow betrayed them. A therapeutically-oriented yoga program can be part of a complete program in healing from difficult or traumatic birth which emphasizes restoring a sense of confidence and empowerment in your body.
