Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I've never done yoga before, and I'm not very flexible. Can I still do Yoga Therapy?
A: Yes. I do a thorough evaluation of each client's range of motion before we start our work together, and I will only ask you to move in ways that are safe and comfortable for you.
Q: Isn't Yoga a religion?
A: Yoga is not a religion. It is influenced by its' origins, as it comes from India, which is why you will hear Sanskrit names for yoga postures. In yoga therapy sessions I do not ask clients to adopt any practices or use of language that they feel uncomfortable with.
Q: Yoga seems like a New Age fad that has nothing to do with modern medicine.
A: Yoga has been around for thousands of years, and is currently enjoying much success and popularity in the US. There have been numerous peer-reviewed scientific studies showing that yoga has beneficial physiological effects for a variety of health conditions (see links). Yoga is now being closely studied by many mainstream Western doctors.
Q: Is Yoga Therapy covered by insurance?
A: Not currently, although it's on the horizon for the near future.
