What is Yoga Therapy?

How does Yoga Therapy work?

We design an individualized program of yoga-based movement and stretching, breathing, and awareness activities that seek to promote and complement the health program you have created with your physician. Yoga therapy promotes healing by training the mind and body to work together.

What makes Yoga Therapy different from other approaches?

Yoga therapy works on the physical level, as would a typical health program, and also on the energetic, emotional, and mental levels, which typical therapies such as Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, and Counseling do not. In Yoga therapy we work intensely with the breath, which modulates energy in the body. We work with visualization and meditation, which can focus and calm the mind. We work with becoming aware and mindful of our emotions, which helps us learn to be less reactive and more proactive in our lives.

I see my clients as partners, and I encourage them to actively participate in their own therapy. Yoga Therapy is empowering for clients because clients can practice the Yoga movements, breathing techniques, and relaxation exercises on their own, which creates profound self-empowerment, and also awareness of the ways in which they can positively affect change in their own health condition.

Yoga therapy is a process-oriented approach for those who want to explore and enhance the connection between mind and body.
